Wyre Lock River Avon

A very pleasant meal with Andrew and Wendy last night at Riley’s, its a long time since we last went there with them.
This morning we had a short wander round town before setting off down stream. We only met 3 boats in the 9 miles but since being moored here several have come up and down through the lock, we are moored on the back of the lock moorings on the weir stream. By mooring here I was able to access yesterdays damaged paint work. On our way down we passed a canoe club and it looks from the number of craft they have.DSCF8315

The Lower Avon feel to be running much slower than the upper Avon and the weirs are very wide.DSCF8314

We only did two locks and at Flatbury Lock there is a large old mill standing on the lock island which looks quite spectacular.DSCF8317

As you see we had some lovely blue sky’s earlier on with very white wispy clouds but this detreatedDSCF8316

around lunch time with thick grey clouds, however its now turned into a very nice evening with a chilly wind.
I noticed there were some moorings a Wyre but these turned out to be pub mooring for patrons, that and they had a good bonfire going at the river side se we carried on passing this thatched cottage hidden away behind the garden.DSCF8318

So we pushed on to moor at the lock moorings.
