I have uploaded our proposed route to CanalPlanAC at https://canalplan.eu/journey/12117_Y927nOaHHF if anyone wants to see where we are likely to be. It gets updated with actual position each night.
Boy did you rain overnight, over 22mm. we even had thunder this morning, but thankfully a little before 8 o'clock it stopped and stayed fine until about half one.
As the forecast was rubbish we set off a little before 9 am. Needles to say a boat went by about 8 am so all the locks were against us. With Diana setting ahead and Brian closing up the lock after I left we made good progress on the first 4 locks, then we met the Volockie who wouldn't let Di draw the paddle of the next lock until after I had started emptying the one I was in. He walked off and left us to it.
We only met one boat coming up from Stratford and that was after we had stopped to fill with water. needless to say he came along just as my had blew off so I was unable to retrieve it, still it was one I found in the canal in the first place.
The last couple of bridges just below locks 55 and 53 are quite low, about half an inch above the weather station.
The moorings leading into the basin were all full so we wondered what we would find, but once in the basin there were only three boats there, so we slipped backwards into one of the pontoons still in the sunshine, however while we were having lunch it started raining a bit, so good timing for once.
I walked the River Avon Trust office/boat to get a licence for the river tomorrow to be greeted with the information that they have had a hi flow alert from the EA for the water further upstream, so a decision on the licence will be made tomorrow morning.
4½ Miles 16 Locks in 3¾ hours
