Luck was with us today, as the boat coming down yesterday afternoon lest all the locks in out favour. We set off at 10 am and it took us two hours and five minutes to clear the top lock, not only were the locks with us but surprisingly all the pounds were on weir (the correct level) so we didn’t need to let any water down. We met a boat coming down at Baddesley Wharf and this ensured the top half of the flight were also with us. With so little movement and no wind there was a good reflection at lock 5.
Part way up the flight a young lady called out “are you Brian?” when I confirmed it say said Bob sent his regards. Unfortunately when we passed Bob and Rosemary, who also had Steve and Em with them I was below and didn’t see them. A short way above the locks a Swan decided to take off straight towards us, it missed the front corner of the cabin by inches. I tried to photograph it taking off but it was almost hidden in front of the boat, the wing tip is just visible to the right. Its feet are still touching the water at this point.
By now the sun was out and it was a very pleasant afternoon, we had had some very light drizzle just before 11 o’clock when people would have been standing on parade for armistice day.
Its nice to see a boat with good anodes on the hull to help stop corrosion, I don’t know how old these ones are but they are still like new
We carried on just past Springwood Haven marina to moor for the night at about 1330hrs. Good job there is nothing on TV as reception is grim to say the least.
With me now posting the map on Google maps you can view our whole journey by clicking the map.
