Whitley Green

Last night could be describes as a bit breezy with very gusty wind, I had to crawl out in the middle of the night in my best birthday suit to move the centre line which as continually slapping on the cabin. The wind moderated today but we have still had some good gusts, the weather has been very mixes, like sun shine, rain, and at one point the boat roof was white with hail.
We made our way north to Marple Junction where we re-joined the Macclesfield Canal and then started heading south. We did stop at the service point to fill with water, yes they are still open but the tap was so slow we packed the hose away and left to find a better one tomorrow.
You can see the changeable weather by this shot of Goyt Mill. Thankfully with the wind the showers no matter how heavy didn’t last to long.DSCF6399 (2)

CRT have found a new way to waste our money with useless signs like this one warning of a weir on the off side, you couldn’t get a wine cork to flow over the weir let alone a canoe or boat.

This part of the country is much hiller than that we normally cruise in so its interesting to see how the canal builders dealt with ground water. I wonder what affect it had on the towpath.DSCF6403

Now this is something I have only seen in rivers before, the dam thing kept diving, they do that, so getting this shot wasn’t easy.DSCF6407

It looks as if the goose I photoed at Poynton the other day quite likes this boat, she has now laid a second egg on the back deck, but there is not much of a nest there.DSCF6408

I wonder how long it will be until this stop plank frame collapses, I suppose it will keep standing until they try to remove the planks, its almost free standing now.DSCF6412

We pushed on to our planed stop for the night, well just passed the next bridge against some nice piling with deep water. but my 3 internet signal is naff.
