Sat 19 Feb Braunston

The wind died right away overnight so it was calm and chilly. As we made ready to set off a little after 10, well we had to watch the curling first,it started to rain and continued quite heavily for the next couple of hours with the wind also picking up. Our original plan was to go to Market Harborough but yesterday I received an email from CRT saying the stoppage at Watford was being extended, I though it had finished, I am sure it wasn't on the stoppage list when I checked. Serves me right for making plans. DSCF6208Anyway we went to Watford to have a look round, not much to see, it's drained top to bottom with nearly all the gates open. The area of water in some of the side pound is quite small, about a third of the original in some cases. After warming up a bit with coffee we retraced our step passing last nights moorings, you can see the nice bank and hedge we were against that protected us from the wind.DSCF6210
Thankfully the rain stopped at this point as we headed towards Braunston tunnel, no one coming towards us this time and you could see right to the far end, it defiantly has a few shakes in it. Needless to say all the Braunston locks were against us, but we only did 4 of them as we plan to eat in the Nelson this evening.
