We had two very good meals in The Nelson last night, they were so busy that the earliest we could get a table was 8pm. A very successful establishment and also dog friendly. After we had eaten we plodded Back thought the mud to Harnser, thankfully it wasn't raining.
This morning it was dry but very windy, we set off at10 and arrived at lock two just as a boat was leaving, as soon as the lock emptied both bottom
gates opened with the wind, thankfully I could see someone had just finished turning the bottom lock, so we didn't have to struggle closing the gates, what I didn't expect was the upcoming boat to take over a quarter of an hour to enter the. Lock, let alone lockup, thankfully I was sitting in lock two and not fighting the wind. There were several people enjoying breakfast at The Gongoozler Rest eating standing outside as they have still got all inside seats closed, will they ever reopen them, who knows.
Things were a lot more sheltered going up the North Oxford Canal until we passed the entrance to Dunchurch Pools Marina again where the wind was coming straight across the marina and out through the entrance and across the canal, the boat noticeably healed as we past.
Much to our surprise there was only one boat moored between The Waterside Inn, it use to be known as Ye Old Royal Oak and Hillmorton Locks. All the three locks were against us but they are easy locks so no real problem, once through the locks we continued on until we had a bit of space between
us and the railway beside the Rugby Golf Course by the disused rail viaduct. Since we have been here it's been tipping it down.
Last trip I started using a map that showed the journey to date which several people liked so click HERE to see this this.
Today's journey9½ miles, 5 locks in 4 hours.
